As the year draws to a close, Awataha Marae has partnered with the Auckland City Mission to stand up a dedicated End-of-Year Community Hub — delivering food support and Christmas presents to whānau across the North Shore.

This initiative builds on a shared commitment: ensuring no family goes without during one of the most important times of the year.

A Hub of Manaakitanga

Operating from Awataha Marae, the hub brings together volunteers, partners, and community networks to coordinate:

  • Food hamper distribution for whānau in need

  • Christmas presents for tamariki

  • Efficient click-and-collect systems to manage demand with dignity

  • On-site support delivered in a safe, welcoming environment

This is more than a giveaway — it is an expression of manaakitanga, where care, respect, and community connection sit at the centre.

Built on Proven Impact

Awataha Marae has a strong track record of delivering at scale — from weekly Te Pātaka Kai operations feeding hundreds, to emergency response during times of crisis.

Partnering with the Auckland City Mission strengthens this capability, combining logistics, resources, and reach to ensure support gets to where it is needed most.

Dignity First

Every aspect of the hub has been designed to uphold dignity:

  • Whānau are welcomed, not processed

  • Systems are streamlined to reduce stress and waiting times

  • Distribution is handled with care, privacy, and respect

Because how support is delivered matters just as much as what is delivered.

A Collective Effort

This initiative reflects the power of partnership — bringing together iwi, community organisations, volunteers, and supporters under one kaupapa.

Together, we are creating a space where:

  • Whānau feel supported

  • Tamariki experience the joy of the season

  • Community stands strong, side by side

Looking Ahead

The End-of-Year Hub is not just a one-off response — it is part of a wider vision to strengthen community resilience and ensure sustainable pathways of support into the future.

At Awataha Marae, the focus remains clear:

Kia manaaki te tangata.Kia toitū te whānau.Kia kaha te hapori.

Care for the people.Strengthen the family.Uplift the community
