On 6 February 2026, Awataha Marae hosted its third Summer Vibes Festival at Eventfinda Stadium — continuing to grow a kaupapa that is becoming a permanent fixture for Waitangi Day on the North Shore.

This event has never been about scale for the sake of it.It is about creating a space where people can engage with Waitangi Day in a way that feels real, accessible, and grounded in community.

A FESTIVAL WITH PURPOSE

Summer Vibes was designed to bring together a wide cross-section of the community — whānau, rangatahi, and local organisations — in a setting that balances celebration with understanding.

Across the day, people moved between:

  • Live performances and SingNation, showcasing emerging talent

  • Interactive spaces and information stalls, offering pathways into education, services, and support

  • TOA Gaming, engaging rangatahi in a format that meets them where they are

  • Kai spaces, where food remains a central expression of manaakitanga

Each element plays a role. Together, they create an environment where connection happens naturally.

WHY IT MATTERS

Waitangi Day carries different meanings for different people. What Summer Vibes offers is a shared space to reflect, participate, and engage without pressure or division.

For many, this is:

  • A first point of contact with kaupapa Māori

  • A place to reconnect with culture and community

  • A platform for young people to be seen and heard

  • A reminder that the Treaty conversation belongs to everyone

The strength of the event is in its openness — people come as they are.

BUILDING YEAR BY YEAR

Now in its third year, Summer Vibes is evolving with intention.

Each year we refine:

  • How we engage rangatahi

  • How we present information in practical, accessible ways

  • How we create pathways beyond the day itself — into education, employment, and community programmes based at Awataha Marae

The goal is not just a successful event, but a sustained platform that delivers long-term value to the community.

LOOKING FORWARD

Summer Vibes 2026 confirmed something important:

There is a real demand for community-led, culturally grounded events that are both welcoming and meaningful.

As we move forward, the focus remains clear —grow the impact, deepen the engagement, and keep the kaupapa intact.

Awataha Marae Kua tau ki Awataha — a place to stand, to connect, and to move forward together.
